Laxton Charity Gymkhana & Dog Show 2009

Around the time of the millennium a group of local people decided to create Laxton Charity Gymkhana as we know it today.

After a great deal of discussion (usually over a glass or two at one of the local hostelries) a small committee was elected, and the task of creating a traditional village gymkhana was taken on.

The committee along with all its helpers and supporters have worked extremely hard year after year to promote the show, which has gone from strength to strength. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather/ground conditions, the 2007 show was unable to go ahead, but with all that behind us 2008 proved to be bigger and better than ever before. Originally the Gymkhana side held all the usual horse & pony classes, show jumping, working hunter and style & appearance, along with the fun classes, the horse & hound, pairs and handy pony.

Last year we introduced a Heritage Display. Agricultural vehicles, tools and machinery of a bygone age, which the younger generation found both interesting & educational, whilst the not so young had time to reflect over the years.

The Dog Show has also experienced considerable growth over recent years, and now boasts classes for pedigree, novelty, obedience and agility.

In addition to all this, various stalls are dotted around i.e. Plant Sales, Air Ambulance Tombola, Saddlery & Clothing and Pet Supplies, adding extra interest for all the family along with a Tug of War competition.

The information above explains what Laxton Charity Gymkhana & Dog Show is all about (hard work but great fun) but on a more serious note the show is all about raising money for charity.

Every year our main charity is the Notts. Lincs. Air Ambulance. A very worthwhile cause I am sure you will all agree, but in Addition to this, in past years the show has donated small amounts of money to local organisations mentioned below:
St. John’s Ambulance, Laxton Rounders Team, Laxton Youth Club, Macmillan Nurses, Dog Rescue, Bassetlaw Hospice, Laxton Village Hall, Jaygee Dog Sanctuary, Blind Charity (V.I.P.S), Tuxford Scouts, Mayflower Sanctuary, Dogs Trust, Laxton Church, Egmanton Youth Group, Whitewater Day Centre, Air Cadets & Riding for the Disabled.

Without continued support from sponsors both old and new, donations, judges, stewards, helpers, members of the public and of course the competitors themselves, none of this would be possible, so may I take this opportunity to say a huge Thank You on behalf of the committee for making the show what it is today.

SEE YOU ALL IN JULY
