Laxton Charity Gymkhana
&
Dog Show
Nearly eight years ago a group of local people decided
to create Laxton Charity Gymkhana & Dog Show, as we know
it today.
After a great deal of discussion (usually over a glass
or two at one of the local hostelries) a small committee
was elected, and the task of creating a traditional
village event was taken on.
The committee along with all its helpers and supporters
have worked extremely hard year after year to promote
the show, which has gone from strength to strength.
Unfortunately, due to adverse weather/ground conditions,
the 2007 Gymkhana was unable to go ahead, but with all
this behind us we hope the 2008 show will be bigger and
better than ever before.
As
before the Gymkhana side will have all the usual
horse & pony classes, show jumping, working hunter and
style & appearance, along with the fun classes, the
horse & hound, pairs and handy pony. New this years is
the introduction of the Nottinghamshire Young Farmers
‘Style & Performance’ class, details of which can be
found on our schedule page. Also new this year is a
Heritage Display: agricultural vehicles, tools and
machinery of a bygone age.
The Dog Show has also experienced considerable
growth over recent years and now boasts classes for
pedigree, novelty, obedience and agility. Being
independently organised the Dog Show was able to a
re-locate in 2007 to a drier site and had a very
successful, sunny day (there was one!). We hope our new
2008 venture, Flyball Catching will also ‘catch’
on.
In
addition to all this, various stalls are dotted around
i.e. Birds of Prey, Plant Sales, Air Ambulance Tombola,
Saddlery & Clothing and Pet Supplies, adding extra
interest for all the family along with a Tug of War
competition.
The information above explains what Laxton Charity
Gymkhana & Dog Show is all about (hard work but great
fun) but on a more serious note the show is all about
raising money for charity.
Every year our main charity is the Notts. &
Lincs. Air Ambulance; a very worthwhile cause we are
sure you will all agree, but additionally, in
past years, the show has also donated to these local
organisations:
St. John’s Ambulance, Laxton Rounders Team, Laxton Youth
Club, Macmillan Nurses, Bassetlaw Hospice, Laxton
Village Hall, Jaygee Dog Sanctuary, Blind Charity (V.I.P.S),
Tuxford Scouts, Mayflower Sanctuary, Dogs Trust, Laxton
Church, Egmanton Youth Group, the Whitewater Day Centre,
the Babworth and Collingham Animal Rescue Centres.
Without continued support from sponsors both old and
new, donations, judges, stewards, helpers, members of
the public and of course the competitors themselves,
none of this would be possible, so may we take this
opportunity to say a huge Thank You on behalf of
the committee for making the show what it is today.
SEE YOU ALL IN JULY |
